I've hit a bit of a stumbling point in my first experiments in motion control.

My Setup:
I have a Hitachi VFD connected to my PC via Hitachi's "ConverterCable" (this is just a RS-232 <> RS-422 converter).

My Goal:
I'd like to use an existing Modbus implementation (probably NModbus or jamod) to send Start/Stop/FW/RW commands to the VFD.

Right now I'm able to control the VFD using Hitachi's ProDrive software, which I believe uses Modbus. My problem is that I don't really know what registers I should be reading-from and writing-to in order to get control. Does anyone have any insight as to where I can get this information?

I really appreciate any advice anyone can give me in getting closer to my "Goal".

Hi,

Ask Hitachi, they built it! If they don't publish the protocol, then ditch their drives and choose another manufacturer that does. Try Danfoss or Siemens, I know their Protocols are available.
