MODBUS TCP TO MODBUS RTU

I am working on a communication link between an Emerson Ovation DCS and an ABB AC410 controller. The Emerson talks modbus TCP and the AC410 speaks modbus RTU. I want to purchase an easy to configure device to link the two. I saw in a previous post a recommendation of a device from Moxa. I see other devices from Digi, Lantronix, etc. Would anyone care to comment on what they are using and how they feel about the product? Price is not necessarily a problem, I want a dependable device, easy to configure and with good tech support. That said have you used any of these, and what do you think? Thanks for your time and thoughts!!!

Hi Mike,

You did not mention what flavour, master or slave, that the gateway should have. So I will assume that the gateway should be slave on both sides.

I work as support engineer for HMS's networking dept. and can recommend our gateway - why, you ask? Because I have never had any problems with it. I have one set up in my lab since 2004 and it just keeps on ticking. It also has some great additional functions, for more info:

Hey Mike,

We have thousands of users of our OPC Server product who use any combination of Moxa, Digi, Lantronix and Comtorl converters. They have all been on the market for a long time and they all work extensively to make products that are reliable for the automation industry.

You can use any of them with confidence.

There are lost of products that will enable you to convert from Modbus Serial to Modbus/IP. I would look for a product that can support redundancy, detect comm. failures and provide deterministic performance. These seems to be the differentiation factors.

Hi,

I have been in this situation dozens of times. I strongly suggest Lantronix Co-Boxes. They are easy to use, durable and compact. In addition to this, you can also use Westermo products if the application is for outdoor use. Their products are desighned for higher operational temperatures.

I have used both and have found both very promising.

Good luck.

The Comtrol DeviceMaster UP has many configurable settings for Modbus Master and Slave modes. It also has a TCP/IP feature called dual connect that allows the data to be seamlessly sent to another monitoring system.

If you would like a free trial evaluation for 60-days you can follow this link:

The product is used regularly by customers needing ModbusTCP to RTU conversion or to standard ASCII serial.
