I think PC based control has it’s place, but one reason I have seen to use PLC’s still is on a job with a small I/O count you just cannot beat the price of a micro plc. I have been through several PLC to PC based jobs. Once the “white box’ is purchased, especially if it’s industrial grade the price is already over the PLC & operator interface costs. Just my 2 cents.
